Data Collection for Physical AI

The Bee camera is designed to protect people's privacy while collecting data for Physical AI. Your personal information is not the data that is being monetized. Bee camera offers contributors anonymity, unless you are using Beekeeper commercial fleet management. Note: devices that opt into Beekeeper fleet management tools are subject to different terms — fleet data (including trip history, driver identity, and AI Event video) is not anonymized, as fleet owners require this data to manage their operations. See the Beekeeper section below for details.

What Is Collected?

The Bee camera is designed to collect information from the physical world in a privacy-centric manner. The primary pieces of data it collects includes:

Imagery and Video

Street-level imagery and video

GNSS Data

Accurately positions collected data like imagery, video, road features, and more

IMU Data

Inertial Measurement Unit sensor that measures acceleration

How Collected Data Is Used

We build Physical AI Data Products that businesses can consume. You can view the data products we sell here.

Privacy by Design
Randomly Generated Usernames

Each Bee camera’s username is randomly generated to ensure anonymity, and contributors’ location data and imagery collected is never publicly tied to a username.

Privacy Blurring

Automatically blurs faces and license plates from the imagery on the edge — dashcam mapping device — prior to uploading imagery.

Edge Processing

The Bee automatically privacy blurs images and detects objects (e.g., speed limit signs) on the edge.

Privacy Zones

Personal and network level privacy zones where all data collection is automatically paused.

No Identifiable Info Collected from Contributors

When contributors collect imagery, faces and license plates are automatically blurred on their Bee devices, to ensure the imagery we receive does not include personally identifiable information of road users (bystanders). Unblurred imagery is never shared with the Bee Maps App and Bee Maps has no access to unblurred imagery.

No Personal Info Collected from Road Users (bystanders)

Each Contributor’s username is randomly generated to ensure anonymity, and contributors’ location data and imagery collected is never publicly tied to a username.

Request Takedown

We can assist with further blurring or deleting of imagery an individual considers sensitive or their personal information (e.g. a face, body, vehicle, license plate or home). If you would like to request this, please complete this form or send us a message to [email protected].

Placards

In certain countries, contributors are required by law to display a placard on their vehicle indicating that imagery is being collected for a map. If you are mapping in one of these countries, you must print the appropriate placard and display it visibly on your vehicle while collecting. See the list of countries and download placards here.

Beekeeper Fleet Services

Beekeeper is a fleet management software platform that enables fleet owners to track vehicles, monitor driver behavior, review trip history, and access AI-powered driving event detection. If you opt your Bee device into Beekeeper, Hivemapper Inc. (dba Bee Maps) owns all trip history data, location history, AI Event video data, and other data generated through your use of the platform.

Driver data within Beekeeper is not anonymized. Anonymizing driver identity would render the fleet management tools ineffective, as fleet owners need to know which drivers are associated with specific trips, routes, and driving events in order to manage their operations.
