Bee Maps Adds Lyft as Customer

We’re proud to announce that Lyft is now a Bee Maps customer, deepening the ride hailing marketplace’s commitment to crowdsourced mapping as they continue to scale rideshare services and prepare for an autonomous future.
Lyft has long championed an approach to mapping built on openness, community, and constant improvement. Since 2019, they have invested heavily in open and crowdsourced mapping, adopting OpenStreetMap (OSM) as its base map, contributing millions of edits, and harnessing its driver community to keep those maps current. They’ve even worked in the past to collect street-level data – using everything from mobile devices to dashcams to spot changes and keep maps fresh.
Their commitment now takes another step forward as Lyft has selected Bee Maps, powered by Hivemapper, as a source of high‑fidelity, street‑level data. Bee Maps stood out for its scalable model that turns everyday driving into the world’s fastest‑growing mapping initiative.
“Lyft recognized that old-school mapping couldn't keep up with the real world,” says Ariel Seidman, co-founder and CEO of Bee Maps. “For mobility to work and for autonomy to become reality, maps can't be an afterthought—they need to be crowdsourced, live, accurate, and open. We're proud to arm a true innovator like Lyft with the constantly updated street-level spatial intelligence that enables their vision.”
Bee Maps' approach provides fresh, high-fidelity spatial intelligence across both well-mapped and emerging regions. By tapping into a decentralized network of contributors equipped with AI-powered mapping devices, Bee Maps ensures that street-level changes – like detours, signage, road features, or new construction – are captured in real-time. The collaboration between Bee Maps and Lyft began in early 2024 and includes coordination across map engineering team members in the U.S. and Europe.
We’ve long admired Lyft’s efforts to improve the experience of both riders and drivers through smarter, faster, and more adaptable maps. We’re excited to continue to support that vision.
